It's tempting to open accounts everywhere: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and more. Most small businesses then abandon them, and a dead profile looks worse than no profile. Today you choose one place where your customers actually are, and a small habit to keep it alive.
Where are your customers? Pick the one that fits best:
- Local community groups (neighbourhood Facebook groups, local forums, community WhatsApp groups): good for trades and local services. Follow each group's rules. Be helpful, not salesy.
- Instagram: good for visual work, such as food, beauty, interiors, gardening and crafts.
- LinkedIn: good if you serve other businesses.
- Your trade or professional association: good for credibility. Many have member directories.
- Local business networks or your chamber of commerce: good for referrals.
Your monthly habit (15 minutes a month):
- Share one finished job or one useful tip.
- Answer one question someone asked.
- Link to your website when it genuinely helps, not in every post.
Clean up the rest: if you have old profiles you don't use, either update the details to match day 3 and add a link to your website, or close them.
Done when: you've picked your one place, set a monthly reminder, and cleaned up old profiles.
