Your one-page plan

Most websites don't bring in enquiries because they talk about the business instead of answering the customer. Today you write down what your customers actually need to hear. Tomorrow's lessons turn it into your website.

Answer these four questions. Short answers are best.

1. Who are your best customers? Describe them in one or two lines. "Homeowners who need a leak fixed today." "Parents of teenagers preparing for maths exams."

2. Where are they? The towns, neighbourhoods or areas you really serve. Only list places you'd happily drive to or deliver to.

3. What are your top three services? The three things you most want to be hired for. For each one, write a price range if you can ("Boiler service: £80–£120"). Price ranges are the most wanted information on any small business website.

4. What do customers always ask before they book? Think about your last 20 phone calls or messages. Write down the five questions you hear most. "Do you work weekends?" "Is there a call-out charge?" "How soon can you come?"

Question 4 is the most valuable. Those five answers will become part of your website. They'll save you phone time, and they help Google and AI assistants understand what you do.

Keep this page handy. You'll use it on days 6, 22 and 23.

Done when: you have four short answers written down and saved where you can find them.
